Faith: Hello Tomorrow!
We have dreams and goals. In fact as March begins, some of us reflect on some of the goals or resolutions we may have set at the beginning of the year. Oh, how time flies! It was only yesterday that 2014 began and now we are count down and before we know it the year will be over!
Again, we plan, we think, we dream…. but how could we be so sure of tomorrow that should make our dreams a reality? That should make us the success we dream of being? Yes, hope gives us the stamina to hold on in difficult time, with the assurance that tomorrow will be better…. but what makes us sure of this? What gives us that confidence? And what is that evidence?
It’s what I call Faith or Hello tomorrow!
I love how the Scriptures define it – I’m not sure of any better definition that captures this so well as Hebrews 11:1
“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see”
Certainly this is just a snippet of a whole Chapter about Faith, filled with heroics and great acts that the great patriarchs – Abraham, Moses among others and even women such a Rahab, who was a Prostitute, made it to the Roll of Honour of those who because of Faith distinguished themselves to Greatness.
It’s amazing, such a simple word, often bandied along with Hope and Love can be so difficult sometimes to grasp and execute. I realize that the single most success factor beyond the other two that has the power to change everything about us is Faith. In fact, Trust and Faith are sub-sets of each other that work miracles in our lives and so indispensable if we are to achieve anything of Significance, whatever religion or set of values we may subscribe to.
The Truth of the matter is none of us – even with our most advanced knowledge or science can predict what tomorrow has in store. We can only ‘Trust’ or have ‘Faith’. Even weather predictions are on a 50-50, which is a clever way of getting it right – whether it rains or it shines! But who wants to live a 50-50 life?
We strive for success, health in our families, better opportunities for everyone – crowned with prosperity and blessings. None of us in our right mind wishes bad things on ourselves. We always have a desire to be better, to be bigger – to realize our potential and to live the life we have imagined. This is only possible with Faith and by Faith!
So what is Faith for you? And how do you exercise it in your day to day life?
Mind you most of what we hear of faith is sanitized and polished to look so nice and cool. Often it is not… If anything it’s the opposite; radical, crazy, unconventional and absolutely never passive – it’s about putting everything on the line for that which you are deeply convinced and convicted – often with dead certainty of what will be in the tomorrow! I suggest a full read of Hebrews 11 with some imagination to realize it may not have been a cool and easy thing to hide little Moses in a basket among the reeds for 3 months against the decree of Vicious Pharaoh!
Faith is never passive!
See how James puts it again in Scripture (James 2:14 -17)
“What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”
Wishing you all a Faith filled Sunday and week ahead!
Have Faith – say Hello tomorrow!
