Blank Fridays: The Scriptures

I had an old Bible that I gave to my brother Henry ‘somewhere’ back then. I call it old not because it’s a century old rather it is a bit frayed, uneven pen writings and highlighted stencil almost everywhere. Needless to say I had it for almost a year!

I recently bought another Bible; you could tell it was new by the way I tried to grasp the teaching in the previous Sunday service. I thought I knew my pages so well but as it was, my fingers and eyes kept on glued to the content page on almost every book taught that day. I still couldn’t believe even the book of Joshua I had to check it out in the content (page 248).

I have several books (actually few) in my library and never thought of replacing any old one with another new one of the same; I have never thought of buying another book of which I lend or gave as a gift to my friends; in other words have never thought of buying a book that I have already read.  So why did I buy another Bible?

Romans 15:4 say “For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.”

I found out that the Bible is different, its scripture inspired. It’s not just a book like the ones you read in O level and forget. The Bible talks directly to you no matter the position or situation you are in.

Today while I was at the barber’s shaving I heard on radio from a preacher that ‘The world today is so closer to God than ever…and yet far from God’s presence than ever’ and I was thinking ‘so close and yet so far’ ah! And it dawned to me that it must be the Bible. We always have it, carry it mostly on Sundays but never get time to refresh ourselves with it.

Good people of God ‘In the Scriptures’ it’s my encouragement to you to find time and always peruse through your Bible. A fall sometimes is inevitable and the scriptures are there to lift us up. I realized that many things lose taste, many books lose meaning but there is this one of a kind book that never loses its meaning no matter how much the sentence will be echoed to you. The message will always be the same, a matter for you to lend an ear to it.

Philippians 4:8 :“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things.”
