Timspirational Weekend: 6 Pairs of Lenses for Your Best Life
Lenses, or how we see things determines what we see and has a lot to do with where we find ourselves in life. You have often heard of the empty half and empty full of Glass. Lenses is the stuff life is made of and the stuff that shapes our lives.
Here are some of the lenses in view
Somebody said the future is soo bright, they had to wear shades! How true of such a lense that has brightness all before it! The shades is all about how we see things today, in fact NOW! Shades of dark, green, grey, and even yellow – they shape our perception of reality. And as they say, perception is reality. Shades color our world indeed! What shades are you wearing today in your life?
Scripture often talks about the eyes our understanding being opened. Simply seeing with our inner eyes, perceiving beyond the obvious, the stated and told – in fact if you wish – perceiving truth beyond the BS! Insight, discernment, wisdom – inner sight – enabled by the Supreme – so we can see beyond the obvious, and live extraordinarily. Question is has that veil been removed? Can you see clearly now?
Birds eye lens speaks of aerial perspective. Seeing things from above and to put them in proper perspective. From the Swift, to the Swallow to the Eagle – from their lens they see the world from high above. And even the Good book says that the birds of the air, look at them – they have no worries! We can certainly learn a lot from them through this lense.
The Mountain Top
High above the rest of ground to see all around yet still grounded to relate the experience of the terrain. Mountain tops speak of perseverance and overcoming; tactics and an air of inspiration and triumph. We stand out of the crowd, or as Thomas Hardy would put stepping far from the madding crowd. Often it is said – it is lonely at the top. As you would imagine it is never breezy climbing any mountain, and such a view is for those who desire and dare to always go higher. The higher you go, the cooler it becomes -: And who doesn’t wanna feel cool?
The Valley View
The valley view is often less celebratory and is more reflective. Often, we rarely choose this view, rather it is thrust on us – unless of course you love to look for lilies in the valley as the Good book says! Yes indeed, we always have a choice how we would wear this lense for it to serve us the most benefit. Valleys can be beautiful, dull, dark, ugly, scary and weary.. We need this lense to grow as TD Jakes eloquently illustrates. Can you see hopeful mountain peaks from the valley?
The Keyhole (or tunnel)
We should never live our life from a keyhole view, yet for safety, security and sanity sake we often need to retreat to this fort and cautiously look out into the world. Sometimes, it is about scraping in the dark looking for that opening of hope and often you hear the expression ‘is there light at the end of the tunnel? ‘ We cautiously and carefully look yonder to discover the next step. …we can’t look and live here for long though. In time we must muster the courage to step out again and brave life and dare to live the best life imagined. Again, the keyhole lens is for survival – but you will never experience the significance of the mountain top from the keyhole lens.
Yes, look-out, but after – step out and live the life you have always imagined!
