Follow His Lead
Most instances we prefer to do it or own way. We find it fit and ‘appropriate’ to have our own plans and working them out with our own expertise. When they do not work out, then we run to our friends for help. But hardly do we look up to God when there are pressing issues at hand. Each day as I meditate, a voice says in my mind, “take my lead”. During this time, I have to resolve and follow His lead. He never fails. He wants to show me that He is there even when all seems lost. Therefore, I’m convicted to step out of my ‘me zone’ and enter into His rest.
I remember when Peter saw Jesus walking on water and when Jesus called him on, he immediately walked on water just like Jesus. He didn’t care if he would sink or even die. He was determined to walk to Jesus. Yes, he doubted and began to sink but this didn’t put him down. He trusted the Lord’s hand. (Matthew 14:31)
Ruth also must have heard the same voice within her: “Ruth it’s time you follow my lead”. She knew her life would change if she went with Naomi. Surprisingly, she wasn’t following Naomi’s lead but God’s.
There was also a man, who was a prophet of God known as Hosea. His experience with God was just one of a kind. Even before everything else, the first words that God spoke to him was, “go and get married.” Hosea, a prophet of God was to marry a prostitute. He didn’t argue or get angry with God. He went ahead and married Gomer and they had children. All Hosea cared about is what God wanted to teach Israel through his experience. He had a choice; to say no and go on with his life but he didn’t.
Today, I’ll honestly say that it is not easy, just waking up one day and doing what God told me to. Not easy at all. It’s human to have lots of doubts wondering whether it is the Lord really speaking. We may be going towards the East and God comes and asks us to turn around and begin going back to the opposite direction (the West). What will you and I do? Through the example of Hosea, Peter and Ruth, we ought to stop, listen and finally do it. We ought to follow His lead no matter the doubts and life’s setbacks.
It’s not a one-minute journey but it’s a decision of a lifetime. How I pray that I’ll be in a position to walk on the flooding waters of life when God asks me to.
