Forgiveness: The Light Heart!
“Lord change my heart. I really want to be like you.”
This prayer is for the Lord to change my heart and make me a better person today. Whenever I’m not able to let go, that He may come through for me and I believe I’ll be free. Sometimes the challenge is letting go of hurt, other times it’s to be set free from the sinful things I have done, and even other times it’s dealing with offense.
What about your life? Are you carrying the heavy load and suffering within? I may not know whether your heart grows so heavy such that you can’t forgive even yourself. God wants you and me to turn around and have a light heart too. A heart that’s free.
Matthew 18:21-22, ‘Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times. [Or seventy times seven]’
Stephen (who was a follower of Jesus) was stoned to death for standing for the truth. (Acts 7:57-60) Even before he died, he had already forgiven those members of the council who were stoning him. But they covered their ears even while he was still speaking. They didn’t care what He had to say.
Acts 7:60, ‘Then he fell on his knees and cried out, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he fell asleep.’
Even while we forgive others, we may not get their attention but I believe that God hears us in heaven and sets us free. Do not feel remorseful today. I ask God to give us a light heart so that when we forgive, our hearts and minds will be set free. We will be forgiven too. Our God is truly faithful. He will be true to His word since He tells us that the truth shall set us free!
