“A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words” – Unknown
I couldn’t agree more with this remarkable quote. Friendships in life always paint happiness and fulfillment in our hearts. We get to share a lot of life realities with our friends and they are always there to help us fight life battles too. In my reading here and there I found out that God values friendship as well. How awesome!
2 Corinthians 5:17-18, “anyone who is joined to Christ is a new being, the old is gone, the new has come. All this is done by God, who through Christ changed us from His enemies into His friends and gave us the task of making others his friends also…” [Good News Bible]
The moment I read this, lots of reflections filled my mind. Undoubtedly, reflecting on what I read and see around me defines who I am. I had not come across any verse of the Bible talking about friendship with Christ. It had never even crossed my mind. But now it does. This verse depicts God being close to us and being open to us. He shows us that He longs for a very personal relationship with Him. This relationship is more than what we have had before with our friends and family. It’s more intimate and one that is aimed at making us better each day.
It’s no doubt that friends constantly communicate with each other. Friendship with God is more than just communication. It’s about making crooked paths straight. It’s about showing undeserved love and favor to ALL. When we choose Christ, we choose crossing a bridge which leads us to the Father. Friends also trust one another. Friendship with God is more than trust. After experiencing the love and impact of Christ, we ought to share it with the world (the verse above says it all).
Calling others into this friendship is our mandate. It’s a task that we need to take and Christ is refining us each day to make us fit for it. Each day I am convicted to tell someone about Christ since it’s our responsibility as God’s friends. The world must know of the joy of salvation whether online, at church or even at school.
Today stand firm and do not look back. If you are not yet in Christ, join in and be part of the awesome family. In Him, we are one remarkable family tied together in love.
Keep it in your heart that God, you and I are friends forever!!
